Devon Haskins, from Washington, DC is a self made baker , who developed the passion for baking from my late grandmother Gladys (Ma) and my great aunt Jean Shaw. I simply remember being in the kitchen with "Ma" as she cooked us delicious meals and Aunt Jean as she baked her famous 7up pound cakes. I was always in the kitchen watching their every move. I remember Christmas time we would always baked the most delicious treats for “Santa” . Baking is very therapeutic to me, coming home from a long day at work, being in the kitchen baking treats for a customer never feels like a job, but a relief after a long day. As a hobby, I was always in the kitchen cooking meals for my family, and baking cakes, and then one day after attending a service at Union Church's BWI Campus, I felt inspired. The message was about Not Burying You Talents. That same day, Cakes By Devon was started and the response was overwhelming. I was honored with the opportunity to connect with an amazing local restaurant Judy’s Island Grill in Glen Burnie, where my cakes are sold by the slice. This was a big accomplishment to me as I’m watching my passion turn into more than I could have imagined. I hosted my first pop up shop at the restaurant and completely sold out of all my cakes within hours. This is something I could have never imagined and it's only the beginning!
I am looking forward to making my passion my career, and one day owning my own brick and mortar.
